BioDiesler Processor Requirements
Getting Started:
Processor Footprint:
The suggested space for the BioDiesler Processor and lab space is just 100 square feet. You will need to add space for methanol, oil and finished product storage. As you increase production you will need to increase your space. Ideally you will have a dedicated space just for biodiesel production.
Processor Requirements:
- 110 Volt 30 amp service, and if using preheater or methanol recovery - 240 Volt electrical supply
- Sewer connection or access to waste water treatment facility.
- Heated space
- Required local regulated ventilation, lighting, methanol handling and storage, signage, MSDS notebook, and any other required safety requirements.
- Soft, warm water source
Permits & Taxes:
Small scale producers will likely only need a permit from the local zoning and a visit from your local fire marshal. See section on BMP's to prepare yourself for permits.
Energy Requirement:
Chemical Usage:
- Methanol (wood alcohol) - approximately 20% of the amount of input feedstock.
- Lye (sodium hydroxide) or (potassium hydroxide) - Buy in bulk 50 lb. bags. Repack in air tight 1 liter plastic jars.
